Like many residents of The Fountains at Bronson Place, Anna Mae Miller is always coming and going. What takes her away from home more often than not is her love of flowers, irises in particular. Active in the worldwide Society for Siberian Iris, Anna Mae visited New Zealand in November 2000.
Anna Mae so loves irises that she has collaborated with Mother Nature to increase the variety of them! The former Upjohn chemist first became interested in hybridizing irises in 1975. She has since introduced 18 different cultivars, some of which are award winning. Their given names are as pretty as their petals: Aqua Whisper, Dancing Nanou, Fattenah and Swirling Lavendar, just to mention a few.
When she isn’t writing articles for gardening magazines or presenting to garden clubs all over Michigan, Anna Mae is right at home at The Fountains at Bronson Place.
“I love The Fountains for its spacious, well landscaped grounds,” she says. In the eight years she has lived here, much to our delight, Anna Mae has taken her talents into gardens on the property, creating masterpieces that amazingly bloom all year round.
It’s no surprise that she serves on The Fountains’ Grounds Committee, but flowers are not Anna Mae’s only passion. She enjoys the computer club, genealogy, quilting and reading to the visually impaired. She also takes advantage of The Fountains’ evening transportation to musical theater.
Anna Mae says she loves “dining in an elegant dining room with interesting personalities sharing lifetime experiences.” Who wouldn’t? Flowers are clearly not the only thing blooming at this community.
Come, meet Anna Mae Miller and the many other interesting people who call The Fountains home.
